Peru Trail Running
Explore ancient ruins, Peruvian culture, and breathtaking scenery on this Peru running trip. The week-long trip allows you to run through the most beautiful parts of Southern Peru, meet locals, enjoy authentic meals, and learn about the history of the country and it’s natives. Finish your adventure with a run to one of the new Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu where you can explore further into the ancient Inca ruins, and relax over the stunning view.
Itinerary Details - Peru Running to Machu Picchu
DAY 1: ARRIVE AT LIMA AIRPORT
When you arrive in Peru at the Lima Airport you will be greeted by a guide who will assist you to the Hotel Wyndham Costa del Sol. Be sure to provide the front desk with your passport, proof of immigration, and credit card upon arrival. You will spend the night in a standard hotel room, with breakfast provided.
DAY 2: LIMA AIRPORT- CUSCO AIRPORT- URUBAMBA
From the Hotel Wyndham Costa del Sol, your guide will assist you back to the Lima Airport, where you will then take a flight to the Cusco Airport. From the Cusco Airport where another guide will meet you. You will then travel to Urubamba, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the cameloid farm of Awana Kancha. Learn about Native heritage, and even develop local weaving techniques! After the visit you will be taken to your Sacred Valley Hotel. You will spend the night in the Lizzy Wasi hotel in a standard room, however you will have the option to upgrade to a luxury room.

DAY 3: PISAC HILLTOP RUINS- PISAC-URUBAMBA
After breakfast in the hotel you will head to the Pisac Hilltop Ruins, a landmark that sits on top of a mountain overlooking the town. After exploring the ruins you will have the option to run, or take a bus down to the town and visit the famous market and town of Pisac. In the evening you will return to your room in the Lizzy Wasi Hotel.
Run: 5KM (3.21 miles), 3300m- 2970m Altitude

DAY 4: CHINCHERO- SACRED VALLEY- URUBAMBA
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel, then head into Chinchero for a tour of the city and it’s ruins. The city of Chinchero is famous for its weaving practices, and you will have the opportunity to watch it in person at various workshops. After stopping for a break and watching the observing the tradition, you will continue the run through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the town of Huayllbamba. This original trail is seldom used, showcasing some parts of the valley in perfect condition. The run will end here where you will enjoy a picnic lunch, and meet with the vehicle for transportation back to the hotel.
Run: 10.3KM (6.4 miles), 3500m- 2850m Altitude

DAY 5: MORAY CIRCULAR RUINS- MARAS SALTPANS- OLLANTAYTAMBO
The day will start by heading to Chinchero plain, towards the Ruins of Moray. The circular ruins are believed to be ancient agricultural experiments. Spend some time visiting the mysterious ruins before heading on a run through an ancient mule trail. Enjoy spectacular views of the snow-capped mountain, Cordillera Vilcanoto, and Andean farming spaces. The run will lead you back across the plains to the town of Maras. From town you will descend to Salinas de Maras, these salt pans that have been around since the Inca’s time. Explore the site and it’s history before heading down to the Urubamba River where the vehicle will meet to return to the hotel.

DAY 6: HUILLOC- PUMAMARCA RUINS- OLLANTAYTAMBO PACHAMANCA PIG ROAST
Today offers you the chance to explore some of the rarer Inca ruins, and see more of the local culture. The day will begin with an hour long drive through a hidden valley to the village of Huilloc. The village is full of history and is a great way to see into Inca heritage and traditions. The run will begin in the village, and follows a dirt path through farms and Inca ruins. A short, steep climb will take you to the Pumamarca ruins, and offers a fantastic view over the valley. You will have some time to explore the ruins before descenting towards Ollantaytambo.
Once arrived in Ollantaytambo you will check into hotel Pakaritampu, then head out for lunch. Lunch will take place at El Albergue Organic Farm, where a traditional “pachamanca” will be prepared. Learn about the farm and sustainable food preparation while the meal cooks, then enjoy the food while relaxing at the farm. Lunch consists of lamb, pork, chicken, alpaca, yams, potatoes, salad, corn, and fava beans, with wine or beer available per request. After lunch spend the day exploring the streets and Inca architecture, then head back to the hotel for the night.
Run: 15KM (9.3 miles), 3542 Alititude

DAY 7: ROYAL INCA TRAIL FROM KM1O4-MACHU PICCHU RUINS- OLLANTAYTAMBO
Jumpstart the day with an early train ride to Machu Picchu, observe the astounding views as the train climbs to Km104. Once arrived, begin a hike through the ruins at Chachabamba along an ancient Inca trail. The hike will ascend through a tropical cloud forest, observing the Urumamba river below. Challenge yourself with an ascent towards Wiñay Wayna, a breathtaking Inca ruins with surrounding gardens. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the ruins, and the opportunity to explore the area. After lunch, a path will lead us through more cloud forests into the “gateway to the sun”, Inti Puncu, one of the most renowned stops on the Inca trail. This spot allows you to see your first view of Machu Picchu.
Take time to stop and take photos and embrace the views before heading further into the ruins. Your English-speaking guide will give you an extensive tour of the ruins, and reveal fascinating information about the ancient Incas throughout your tour of Machu Picchu. Extend your adventure further onto the Inca Bridge, or relax and savor the location’s scenery. In the afternoon a bus will transport you to Machu Picchu town back to the train station, where an evening train will return you to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.
Hike: 11KM (6.83 miles), 2200m-2700m-2400m Altitude

DAY 8: SACRED VALLEY- CUSCO RUINS RUN TO HOTEL
You will return to Cusco from Sacred Valley with provided transportation. Once you’ve reached Abra Corao, you will begin your run down to Cusco. Pass through dirt paths and Inca trails, you will have the opportunity to visit Kenko and Sacsayhuaman, two historically important Inca ruins. Following the ruins the run will lead you down a set of stairs bringing you to the hotel, Antigua Casona San Blas where you will spend the night.

DAY 9: CUSCO- CUSCO COUNTRYSIDE RUN- CUSCO AIRPORT
Starting above Kenko, our run will descent down a path passing the Templo de le Luna and onto an Inca trail. Follow the trail past a river that once supplied water for the Incas, and through a queuña native forest and natural tunnel. Appear on the other side of the tunnel next to the newly restored Inca terraces, the Incakilltambo ruins. These ruins have only been recently studied and nearly 95% of them are still unknown. The path leads back to Cusco where you will once again greet your hotel.
You will then receive transportation to the airport where you will depart home.
